Accommodation

The gîte is in a quiet spot in the small village of Saint-Maurice-en-Trièves (180 inhabitants), at the foot of the Col de Lus-la-Croix-Haute. It has a fenced garden (child-safe), a garden set with an electric barbecue, and 3 double bedrooms, each with a TV. Equipment includes a crêpe maker, a raclette/stone grill and a fondue set. The living room has a TV and a hard drive full of films. Heating is electric, and there is a fireplace. For entertainment: pinball machine, table football, chess and board games, electric organ, telescope, PS4 console, PC with internet access, and Wi-Fi on 2.4 and 5 GHz. Nearby: a family-friendly ski resort, horse ranches, sailing, Himalayan footbridges, bungee jumping and tree-top adventure courses. Many excursions can be started straight from the chalet. I lend backpacks and tents if you fancy a bivouac. Swimming pool at the Lalley campsite. Two bicycles, pétanque balls and 3 pairs of snowshoes are at your disposal. A bakery and a convenience store (Vival) are within walking distance, and Mens (17 km away) has a full range of shops.

Your host

Marcel welcomes you to the Trièves, a mainly agricultural region and the last wild corner of the Grenoble area. With a bit of luck, on your hikes you may spot eagles, sparrowhawks, buzzards and vultures, roe deer and red deer, wild boar, chamois and marmots. The gîte has plenty of equipment to keep you entertained between excursions, especially for children. I am retired and therefore very available to advise you and help you have a great stay. Saint-Maurice-en-Trièves is a peaceful village set against the foothills of the Vercors: Jocou, Rogon, Mont Aiguille and Grand Ferrand are the mountains around it, and most of their summits are easy to reach, even for children. Once you reach the top, a spectacular view rewards your effort. Village fountains and mountain streams await around the corners of the lanes. Many places of interest are within easy reach (10 to 30 km). The roads around the village are country roads with very little traffic. Several restaurants within walking distance will delight your taste buds. In September, mushroom picking. I only open bookings for Christmas and New Year’s Eve in early November.

The neighbourhood

Important information: opposite the chalet is a large cereal farm (wheat, maize). Late June to early July is harvest time (this is the countryside…). If you plan to go hiking or sightseeing, this won’t be a problem at all. However, if you come to the chalet to spend whole days relaxing quietly in the garden, this may not be the right time for you (combine harvesters and tractors passing by). In that case I would recommend a stay in early June, or mid-July to August. As the harvest depends on the weather, I can’t know in advance when it begins and ends.
